"A baby boy died in January 1868. Son of Levi and Turza (Weldon) Wilcox. There was no cemetery for miles. They buried 'Little Charlie' on their land 1/2 mile east of their cabin. The inscription: 'Charles, Son of L. and T. Wilcox, died January 30, 1868. Age 28 days.' The next year children of D. and M. Ogden died: Emma, 8 years, and David, 10 years. In 1873, Samuel, son of H. and A Wathen, age 1 month, in 1880, Winfield Wathen, age 2 years, and Stephan Wathen, age 7 years. The monuments were purchased in Nebraska City. Henry and Angeline had 10 children, 4 lived to be adults.
In the northwest corner of the cemetery is a Catholic baby. Mollring was its name. It wasn't baptized, so along with their sorrow, there was no place to bury it. Again a baby was brought to the Wilcox Cemetery.
On November 21, 1876, there was a meeting to organize a cemetery association. Names of those attending were: James Hyslop, Whitfield, Pindar, Ellis, Wilcox, Mason, Ogden, and Brockman. The ground was officially given by Levi and Turza Wilcox. There were four Civil War veterans: Nicholas Rush, Christian Wagner, J.P. Garrett, and Levi Wilcox.
A peony bush and an end-gate rod mark the grave of Sarah Clarinda Garner West. Her sister, Laura Ferguson, is buried in an unmarked grave. In this old cemetery are perhaps 70 marked and unmarked graves, and many others without a story." (1)
