Donations
Thank you for your interest in supporting the Otoe County Genealogical Society. Our society is dedicated to ensuring that our Otoe County heritage is remembered, our communities are preserved, and our ancestors are acknowledged for the sacrifices they made to become an important part of the Great State of Nebraska.
Donations make it possible for OCGS to fund projects that are above and beyond our normal operating costs. We are a tax-exempt society under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and donations made by contributors to the society are tax-deductible.
If a donation is made to our General Operating Fund, then those funds are used by the society to help augment our annual operating costs, which ultimately helps us to keep our membership fees low.
If a donation is made to our Cemetery Preservation Fund, then 100% of the donation goes into the preservation and maintenance of the 16 abandoned cemeteries that lie within Otoe County. With Otoe County's maintenance funds being extremely limited during these hard economic times, the Otoe County Genealogical Society has taken it upon themselves to try and restore these abandoned cemeteries back to their original condition.
What this entails is ensuring that each cemetery is:
1. Mowed at least once a year.
2. Unwanted trees and shrubbery are removed from the area.
3. Fences are repaired and maintained.
4. Gravestones are repaired and transcribed.
